No one can understand how some suffering chronic pain feels unless they walk a mile in the shoes of those that do. Living with debilitating back pain, day in and day out can be life altering. But, there is hope.

Life can radically change for the worse when my degenerative disc disease sets in. Back problems begin to unfold. Degenerative disc disease is really a term used to describe the normal changes in your spinal discs as we age. Spinal discs are soft, compressible discs that separate the interlocking bones (vertebrae) that make up the spine. The discs act as shock absorbers for the spine, allowing it to flex, bend, and twist. Degenerative disc disease can take place throughout the spine, but it most often occurs in the discs in the lower back (lumbar region) and the neck (cervical region). WebMD

Most often Degenerative disc disease can lead to radiculopathy (pain in the low back and legs (sciatica), facet disease (Joint pain caused by facet joint disorders), herniated disc disease (A herniated disk can irritate nearby nerves and result in pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg), and sciatica (leg pain, numbness or weakness that starts in the low back and travels down the sciatic nerve).

Individuals suffering pain related to anyone of the above conditions struggle to maintain a job, friendships, and active lifestyle. They seriously become disabled.

They live with extreme pain accompanied by tingling and numbness in my arms and legs. Functioning in a day to day routine daily is non-existent, activity is limited. They start to feel isolated from society, suffering in silence, lonley. Life becomes unbearable.

There is hope for individuals suffering pain from degenerative disc disease. Finding the right physician that understand that your pain is real is key to getting the right treatment.

Here's the good news of hope:

Physical therapy and the right pain management plan specific to the patients condition is the first and right step to a pain free life. Pain medications may alleviate the problem temporarily but they are not the solution to pain. You don't want to give-up! Choosing the right physical therapist that specializes in spinal-related disorders. Once your chosen back pain doctor gets you started you will within weeks start to feel unbelievable pain relief for.

Pain medication is NOT the answer. Attending regular physical therapy sessions will give you a new start. Physical training is the launch to a new beginning. Its work that includes exercises several times a day to stay flexed, and maintain muscle strength.

There is no pill you can pop that will magically make the pain disappear. This article is to shed some light on the steps you would need to take to start living again. This just may be the treatment you've been waiting for.

Pain management physicians feel a responsibility to educate the patient as well as ensure the patient is involved in the steps it takes to manage their pain. This will allow the patient to understand the methods necessary to decrease pain quickly, and restore functionality and gain independence, and in time minimizing the number of visits to the clinic. Not every patient will be able to manage their pain independently. If the patents condition is more complex, self-treatment may not be the solution. However, a certified medical doctor will know which pain management program will work for each patient depending on his or her condition. For patients suffering severe chronic pain additional advanced hands-on techniques may be required until the patient can successfully manage the prescribed treatment on their own.

Ultimately, most patients can successfully treat themselves when provided the necessary knowledge and tools. An individualized self-treatment program tailored to the lifestyle of the patient puts the patient in control safely and effectively.

Preventive. Patients gain an experiential education learning to self-treat the present problem. The management of these skills and behaviors will minimize the risk of recurrence and allow patients to rapidly manage themselves when symptoms occur.
